Well, I have managed to narrow the field down to 3 cruises for our first
cruise in December 2004. All Western Caribbean.
Carnival Elation December 5-12
Rhapsody Of The Sea December 5-12
Norwegian Sea December 11-18
The bad side is that there isn't one in particular that stands out. Each has
pros and cons.
For instance:
The Sea goes to Honduras which is a plus, but it is only in Cozumel for 7
hours. This isn't too much of a problem because my "big cruise" 2 months
later is going back to Cozumel and Progresso Mexico as well. Also, this is
the cheapest of the 3 cruises for an outside cabin.
Rhapsody Of The Seas goes to George Town and Key West. Which my big cruise
will be going to the Cayman Islands (Assuming I choose the one I want for
the big cruise). But it is $150 more per person for an outside cabin.
As you see, price is playing a part in our first cruise. But that was the
only way I could convince my S/O to let me book 2 lol.
I haven't actually researched these 3 ships much, so that's where you kind
people come in.
Any opinions or pros and cons of each ship that you have experienced?
Also, since there are 3 different cruise lines, any opinions on them as
well?
We are both in our early 30's, gay (obviously lol), active, enjoy meeting
new people, and people watching, but also enjoy crawling up on a bed or sofa
with a nice book (when our 6 month old daughter isn't wanting to play with
the book lol)
Any advice?
Thanx in advance

Hey Les,
I have never been on any of these ships, but I have been on sister ships
of the Elation and the Rhapsody. Personally, I would not go on the
Norwegian Sea. It's an old ship, with a small space ratio; and although
many have posted to this newgroup that the staff is very friendly, I see
nothing to recommend a cruise on the Sea.
Between the Eleation and the Rhapsody, I would definitely pick the
Rhapsody. I love Carnival's newer ships in both the Destiny and Spirit
Class, but I don't care for Fantasy class ships any longer. The cabins
are too Spartan, although a nice size. The Rhapsody is in RCCL's Legend
Class. These are really beautiful ships (when they are clean), with
two-story dining rooms walled in glass, wonderful indoor pool areas, and
cool Viking Crown Lounges, high atop the sea.

We have cruised on The Rhapsody of the Seas out of Galveston and also the NCCL
Sea out of Houston. I loved both of these ships. We like the freestyle, kind
of, but also like the traditional seating too. On the NCCL Sea you can get a
nice size stateroom on the promenade deck at a reasonable price. The rooms are
small but actually have a lot of storage space. It also had a huge casino,
which I liked very well, because I ended up winning for a change.
Rhapsody had great food and we enjoyed that cruise also. We have not tried the
Carnival ship, but I think you would like the Rhapsody or the Sea either one.
You are going to have a wonderful time, I know! L.B.

I have been on two of the ships, the Elation and Norwegian Sea. Loved them
both. I would suggest the Norwegian Sea, because it had such a friendly crew
and staff when we took it; that it made our small cabin seem insignificant.
So much storage in the cabin that it definitely was not a problem.Wonderful
passenger mix, mostly friendly Texans, (of course I'm not prejudiced at all
;-) ) Seven hours in Cozumel is not bad for your first cruise, since you
say you are going there again on your *big* cruise, as well as to the
Caymans~so you have solved your own problem~plus lower rates on the
Norwegian Sea!
The Elation you can try another time! If you get used to the bigger cabins
that Carnival has, you may not be happy if you ever take the Sea! Like I
said, though, the smaller outside cabin on the Sea did not bother us one
bit!
Jean<~~will be trying the Rhapsody of the Sea for the first time in February
on Lori's Mardi Gras cruise with good friends!
