| | Guest | Private Balcony opinions wanted Hi folks.
My partner and I are planning out first cruise between October 2004 and
January 2005 (we are leaving the exact date open so we can find the best
cruise for us)
I have always thought that a private balcony would be a great idea. But,
what I am wanting to know is this:
Is a private balcony worth the extra cost? I understand that not very much
time is spent in your cabin either way. I hate spending the extra money on
something that won't get used.
Opinions and advice would be greatly appreciated. :-)
I imagine I am going to have lots more questions between now and February
(when I am planning on booking the cruise)
Thanx In Advance!

I had a balcony on my last cruise and had said at the time that it was
nice having it, but that I didn't think I would spend the extra to do
it again.
Well, time changes things. When I got ready to book the GGC2004 I
remembered how nice early morning coffee on the balcony was, the glass
of wine at night just before turning in, and the fresh air and sounds
of the sea wafting through my cabin at night.
Bottom line is IF you can comfortably afford it, you will most likely
enjoy it. A caution though, if you try one, it is hard to go back...

| | Guest | Private Balcony opinions wanted We have had balconies twice and they are wonderful. But it is all a matter
of cost. Like a lot of people, we got hooked on cruising and wanted to do it
often. That meant that we had to keep the cost down. On our 7th and 8th
cruises, we booked an inside cabin, which would have been unthinkable in
the beginning. Inside cabins are not bad. I got pleasure knowing that the
people across the hall were paying $100.00 per day more than us and we got
to do all of the same activities and eat in the same dining rooms
On the HAL Ryndam we got an inside cabin on the promenade deck which has the
biggest balcony in the world and it is on both sides of the ship.
However,
If you are going on one cruise of a lifetime, then go all out.
Have a great cruise.

I prefer having a balcony. We use it for morning coffee/breakfast, or to
sit out when we are waiting for each other to be ready. We also can step
outside to see what is happening in the port or what the weather is
like. We don't spend a lot of time there, but enjoy the time we do.
I would say that if you can afford the extra money, it is worthwhile. If
you can't afford the difference, or it makes money tight for you, you
can still have a wonderful cruise without a balcony.
Right now we can afford the balcony, but when my husband retires, we
will sail without a balcony so we can cruise more often. Just remember
that once you sail with a balcony, you will always want one.

| I am a person who loves to be out and about the ship. I spend very little
time

I have a feeling that I will be like this myself. I love to people watch.
Ok, so I sometimes point and laugh, but who doesn't? ;-)
|
| You need to think about it, and determine what you think you will want,
and
| whether it is worth it. Whatever you decide, go with the intention to be
happy as a clam and you will be.
Great advice. I imagine that since I have looked forward to my first cruise
for many years, this will be a treat.

Someone after my own heart! I cannot see paying high prices for something.
especially when it is essentially the same vacation. That said, I will most

I think that I am going to plan 2 and go ahead and book them both in
Feburary (04). A short 3-5 day for Halloween 2004 and then a birthday cruise
for me in Feburary 2005. But I'm not sure yet.

| I love balcony cabins . . . and I'm one of the classic ocean liner
| geeks on this ng. The ships I like best never had balconies.
I have to say that I am probably a Classic Liner lover too. I guess the
ships that I have always liked would qualify as classic. (The now defunct
Premier lines ships were favorites) I love the Holiday, Jubilee, and others
in that style. I guess the QE2 being the epitome of Classic Liners (still in
operation) that I know of.
But, I am also a lover of the newer mega-liners.
| If you can swing it, go for it . . . and welcome to rtc.

Thanx for the welcome :-) I am glad to be here... I will probably become a
very regular poster (sticking my nose into a lot of conversations)

| | Guest | Private Balcony opinions wanted Never spend time in the cabin except to shower, dress, and sleep, prefer to
be up and about the ship, always have my coffee by room service in
morning while getting dressed, and have my nightcap in the lounge with
music before bed,the balconies IMHO are a waste, and spoil the look of a

I agree that a balcony is a waste of money when you are traveling with
friends.

We have never had an inside because I tend to be claustrophobic. I cannot
visualize my being able stay in a room without a window at home so I know it
is not for me~but others have taken insides and been very happy with them..
I need to know when it is day or night. We have sailed in both outside
cabins and ones with balconies. After four balcony cruises in a row, I did
not think I would be able to go back to an outside. Last August, we took the
Zenith to Bermuda. She had no balconies and I really did not mind having an
outside cabin. Just being on a cruise was great and of course being with a
group of friends made it even better. Whichever you choose, Les, enjoy it
to the fullest and I won't be surprised at all that you will become addicted
and making plans for your next cruise when you return! Let us know when you
decide and which cruise line you will choose as your first!
