All the major car rental agencies have offices in or around Port Canaveral
(usually in a hotel) and most have shuttles to and from the ships. One
way rentals are often more economical than shuttle busses as there is
usually no charge for dropping it off at another Florida location.
Go to Yahoo's Yellow Pages, enter the location as Port Canaveral Florida
and enter Car Rental. Cape Canaveral, Merrit Island and Titusville are
just to the north of the port, Cocoa Beach is just to the south. You'll
also be able to see how far the rental agency is from the ships (where all
the cruise ships dock is labeled "Trident Basin" on Yahoo maps)
Also, calling the agency directly for a reservation can often save money
plus you'll be able to ask questions about shuttles that the national
number wont know.
We did this last year, renting from Avis at MCO, driving to Port Canaveral
and dropping the car off at the Radisson a mile or two from the port on
Astronaut Blvd. Hopped on the Raddison's courtesy shuttle and headed to
the port. Did the same thing in reverse on the way back dropping off at
MCO. The freedom of having our own car also gave us the opportunity to
visit the Kennedy Space Center for a few hours before our flight. I think
we paid $32 each way with a corporate discount.
