Default Tortola & Grenada

Has anybody been to Tortola and/or Grenada.
Anything special to those two places.
Any infos would be appreciated.
I went to Grenada back in '96 on the CCL Fascination, and my favorite
thing to do there was to get back on the ship and get the heck on to
my next port. Yeah, okay, buy some spices and THEN get back on the
boat... I don't mean to sound negative, but I just didn't enjoy that
place AT ALL. I was travelling on that cruise alone and I was scarred
for my safety while in the little town there. I hope that my
experience is not the rule, but the exception.
My husband and I were in Grenada in 1996 as well. While it wasn't one of our
favorite ports (nor was Guadeloupe), we did see some beautiful countryside.

Take the ferry over to Virgin Gorda to visit The Baths. It's such a
sight to behold, and Virgin Gorda in and of itself is beautiful.

That's too bad that you had that experience in Grenada. Mine was
pretty opposite. I flew to Grenada this past March to take my first
Windjammer cruise. We flew down a few days early, to have a chance to
see some of the island. Our hotel was on a GORGEOUS beach. We also
took a tour that included stops at a spice plantation, a few
waterfalls, etc. I think the island is beautiful - I'd go back for a
longer stay. The locals are on the pushy side (not as pushy as
Jamaicans) but I never felt that it was unsafe to walk around. I did
see some signage (grafitti, really) that essentially said "thanks USA"
for the 1983 marine corp assistance.

If you ever find your way back to Grenada, try taking a tour that will
bring you out into the countryside. It really is a beautiful place.

Default GRENADA

Is Grenada receiving cruise ships?..It was one of the islands that were
badly devastated by the hurricanes.

Yes. Grenada welcomed it's first cruise ship since the hurricane last week.
The Norwegian Spirit had the honors.
Cool, because it's one of the few caribbean islands that I have not been
too, and it's on the itinerary for the late December Lirica crossing
that I am on.

I don't think I'd like to visit Grenada for a long time after the
devastation they suffered.

I was on one of the first ships back into Grand Cayman after Hurricane Ivan
and I thought the same way... until I got there. Yes, the devastation was
horrible to look at but in talking with the people who live there, I got the
sense that they weren't looking back but looking forward. When I would say
"this looks bad", invariably someone would reply "it is a lot better than it
was". The people there are optimistic and frankly, they need the $$$ that
we tourists bring in to their economy.

There are lessons to be learned and blessings to be seen even in the
destruction of a hurricane.
I like your attitude, George.

Me too, Howie, George couldn't have said it better.
The people of Grand Caymans expressed their gratitude because we came
regardless of their disaster...Grenada being such a poor island will need
all the $$$ they can get to help rebuild and help with their livelihood...I
don't expect Grenada to be the same as when we last saw it, but I am glad we
are going there...
