No, but it adds a few seconds of time, and deters the opportunist. I
also fail to see why the TSA break off locks, I am sure they could
easily have to hand a key or keys to open everything going, without
resorting to breaking things.
What was the story of some chap at LAX selling pilfered & "confiscated"
items from luggage on Ebay not so long ago? Can't recall where I read
it, or even if there was any truth to the news report, but believable.
On Norwegian Dream in April at muster before sailing, passengers watched
the loading from truck to ship of the luggage from the airport in Rome.
Each case with a combination lock had it 'twiddled', obviously the
handlers were hoping one would open by chance. This was in full view of
hundreds of pax... we did wonder if the handlers had noticed us up
there:) No lock opened, but would have been interesting if one had to
watch the resulting furore.
