Default Grand Turk Cruise Center Devastated!

I have learned that the Grand Turk Cruise Center has suffered major
destruction when Hurricane Ike made a direct hit. Carnival which
built and owns the cruise center does not know how long the cruise
center will be out of operation but it will be at a minimum months if
not a year or more.
This is sad, but I am not at all surprised.

With upwards of 90% of ALL buildings pretty much destroyed by one
estimate, this may be a rather hopeful statement. With that many houses,
etc., destroyed they may get the Center rebuilt before they can get
enough people rehoused and available to run the place.
One of my clients own a home there, He said he was told his is OK...
( your talking Expensive real estate there) Beaches at Turks and
caicos one of the most Premiere resorts there has damage but mostly
to the grounds and they will reopen om the 26th of Sept. Very sad...

this is one of my most favorite islands... Provo is lovely... Quiet,
Serene, upscale and Beautful water

It is my understanding that Provo came through with not as severe
damage. Unfortunately the island that the cruise lines call at were
not as lucky.
I just called HAL to find out if the Grand Turk excursions had been
canceled and the lady on the phone said that they had been told
nothing about it.

the next 3-months. The cruise lines are working on alternative ports
of call.
What's the status of Puerto Maya on Cozumel?

We enjoyed the afternoon there last April and sure hate to see it get
hit that way. Has anyone seen any pictures of the Cruise Center? I'd
sure be curious.
