I have been told by several of my cruise line reps that they do. They
are very interested in finding who did very well and who "needs
improvement". Comments are used to determine promotions and contract
renewals.
I have one client who was actually contacted by Carnival after leaving
a fairly negative comment about an experience with a deck hand. They
gave him a $100 OBC. He said he would have preferred the guy's ear,
or a roundish organ found in a pouch outside of the body. | |

Just had to put my 2 cents worth in on this topic. Sailed out of New
Orleans in May this year. Was in an A1 cabin by my self. (so I knew
no one else could have done it, i.e. one of my kids) The Cabin
Steward delivered the comment card the second day with the Carnival
Cappers. I filled it out except for the comment at the end, as I
couldn't remember the one person's name that I wanted to comment on
from the dinning room.
Figured I'd get the correct spelling of her name and come back to the
cabin and complete the comments. When I got back the card was gone as
well as my pen, and a few other things and the papers that I had on
the desk that I had been working on all week were in the trash can
(Editing a book for a friend). (The bed was turned down and the
chocolate was on the pillow, so I knew he was in the cabin).
I had the thought that the CS thought I might leave bad comments about
him because it took me two days to get the shower head changed because
it sprayed all over the bathroom.
Just my 2 cents,

| | Guest | Comments about cruise Cathy,
I've worked in the cruise biz for a lot of years...entertainer (Sitmar,
Princess, Celebrity, Commodore and Carnival), cruise staff (Commodore and
Carnival), then Cruise Director (Commodore and HAL), and now, as Port
Enhancement Lecturer for Princess. I can tell you for CERTAIN that at least
some people on board read each and every card. The Hotel Manager, or
Passenger Services Manager reads each and every one, then sends the
appropriate ones to each department head. From there, on some ships, copies
are passed around to the individuals within the department. On others, the
powers that be haven't gotten the memo on the importance of positive
feedback, and the chain stops with them. In my experience, that's not so
common; most of the time, the managers are smart enough to know that
negative feedback is important, and that positive feedback is VITAL.
Personally, I reckon that the feedback I get from passengers is worth about
30% of my "pay" for the job. It means a lot to me that people take the time
to actually write something about me after their cruise. It's a tremendous
source of positive reinforcement.
The folks in the corporate offices usually only see the numbers (the
ratings), which gives them a thumbnail sketch of how things are being
perceived by the guests on board...but occasionally, they'll also see some
comments.
