That's the chance we take when booking any cruise.

I have had Labadee on the itinerary many times and it was never
canceled. The most canceled port I have had is Grand Cayman, followed
by Princess Cay. Your last sentence makes no sense at all. It is not an
island, it is not owned by Royal Caribbean, it is leased, and they
lease it to stop there. It is a popular stop and from what I have read
it is rarely skipped. You just had bad luck that trip.

I agree and there are many here who would love a 7 day to nowhere cruise.

No. That would involve a long plane ride. We know you hate sea days, but
some (like me) prefer them. Although, one good thing about port days, is
everyone else gets off the ship.

Even if it was calm then, if the forecast was for bad weather coming in
that could be the reason to cancel. Royal Caribbean once had 1500
passengers stranded overnight at Coco Cay when the weather turned bad
after they tendered in. They don't want a repeat of that. What really
is your point? As you say RCI controls all the activities at Labadee,
its just like being on the ship. Most passengers rave about the stop
and look forward to it. It is in RCI's interest for the stop to be
made, not cancelled.

It's not surprising that RCI would contribute a lot of dollars to the
Haitian government. I would expect the cruise lines do that in many
countries including the United States. For example last week Carnival
put out a press release announcing a contribution of 2.5 million to
hospital in Miami and RCI announced a GIVE day in Wichita.

That might be nice after Kevin retires. For now I would love a 7 day to
nowhere, round trip from Florida so the airfare is reasonalbe.

We have no interest in cruising on any Cunard ship.

This might work for a healthy person, but for me changing the clock by
an hour really messes me us.

Still a flight to Florida would be much cheaper. I think you might be
right about Cunard buying roundtrip tickets.

You have to search a lot to find decent one-way fares from Europe back
here ... but they do become available at times ...
Coming back from Barcelona just about every one way fare direct to NY
was lots more than a RT ...One direct listed at $3700 coach ... Most
were over $1000 but finally we did find one on Swiss Air through
Geneva that was 411 ... Cruise air was like 800 ... Cunard probably
gets much better deals since they do that often ... | |

Just flying over to do the crossing? Very cool.
I was very grateful to talk to the crew on an earlier trip on the QE2
who mentioned that pax tend to get progressively grumpier on Eastbound
crossings - but passengers and crew love Westbound so when we planned
for a crossing a couple of years later, we knew how to do it. ...and
it seems most people planning to travel to Europe and cross one way
and flying the other tend to envision taking the ship over and flying
back. (I suspect we think of all those old movies with the streamers
to friends on the docks.)
