the web site.

Not sure if you're asking for ideas of what to do or where to stay. If
you're trying to figure out where to stay, we've been using
venere.com to research hotels for our trip to Italy. You can save
quite a bit of money by staying in very nice hotels just outside of
Venice if you only need a place to stay for one night. Lugging cruise
luggage into Venice for just one night might prove to be a shlep.

| | Guest | Tampa hotels We're going to be spending a night after our cruise in Tampa. What
would be a good hotel that would have a shuttle to the airport?

Hi, Jeff,
It would help if you indicated your budget and whether you've been to
Venice before. Once, we stayed in a pensione; another time we stayed
at The Gritti Palace. Two ends of the spectrum. Venice is a very high-
priced hotel city. There are some hotels I'd call travelers' favorites
for good experience/good value that book far in advance.
TripAdvisor.com is always a good resource, as are the forum
discussions on SlowTrav.com. If it's just for one night, I,
personally, would hit Priceline.
As for transfers, you can ask your TA or call Celebrity if you booked
directly. I think you will find that Celebrity will run a water
shuttle from St. Mark's to the dock where the ship will be berthed. I
think the shuttle was free when we were there with Celebrity...but I
could be wrong! In any event, it's the most convenient thing to do,
and they'll be ready to help you with luggage.
Departing from Venice will be a very special cruise experience!

Nonnymus, we got the Tampa airport Marriott via Priceline once, and it
was a clean, well-managed property, very convenient for walking from
your room right into the airport terminal. I remember they handled our
luggage transfer and even wheeled my MIL over to the security check
point in a hotel wheelchair. I can't recall the specifics, but this
was post-cruise, as well, and we had a car rental at the airport so we
could go out and see family in the area. Staying on site made that
easy, too--had the car all of 12 hours or less, returned it the same
night so could sleep in and just walk over to catch our plane the next
day.
Of course, can't guarantee you'd get the Marriott on a Priceline bid,
but if it appeals to you, you can always try to ID it on Hotwire or
just pay the piper.

We always stay at the hotel that the cruise line is using for it's
precruise packages. Then it's very easy to participate (at a charge)
in their transfer to the ship. Usually they will pick up your luggage
at the hotel and take it to the ship. Very convenient and much less
expensive than participating in the entire precruise package. | |

">Thanks everyone. As for budget, we have a price from Celebrity of $636
for the one night at the Sofitel with transfers. We also saw private
transfers at about 125 Euros which I have to assume was for each person. So,
the $636 for two is looking better. Sad, but better.
Thanks again and I'll check out the reccomendations.
Jeff
