We did the same ports ... and took taxis in each ... most are indeed
too small for 4 passengers and the driver comfortably ... There are
some larger taxis ... But to insure getting one ... I'd make
arrangements with the cab companies over the internet so they'll meet
you with a vehicle large enough ...

We did find that by walking a few blocks away from the taxi driver
mugging station right off the dock ... There were more relaxed and
better car and drivers ... ready willing and able to drive you around
for like $20 an hour ... or on an agreed upon rate to your
location ... Returning to the ship from Puerto Vallarta ... a driver
agreeed to $10 ... with traffic it took him over an hour ... I felt so
bad for him I gave him $20 ...

Depends on wether or not you are supersized or not. Can your party fit in
a midsized car?

Most of them are about the size of a Toyota Corolla or Nissan Sentra.

When we were they some 18 months ago ... most places we agreed to
something like $20 an hour ... not quite as long as that ... 4 or 5
hours ..
We found them to be very helpful ... Wanting to get "Tequila that the
locals drink" for instance ... he brought us to this out of the way
place ... translated for us ... and we came away with a lot of
specialties for ridiculously low prices compared to the port area
merchants ...

The dollar is still king in Mexico ...
