Default New Policies on NCL

I was also on the Dream Transatlantic. it was only the 2nd NCL cruise I
had ever been on. I find most of the cruise lines are starting the
"Nickel and Dime" game. NCL prices are probably the lowest of all the
popular lines and if one is frugal, one can have a very good cruise for
mini bucks. As long as one doesn't expect high quality, NCL gives good
value. The 2 non-extra-charge restaurants were better than the main
dining room but the hamburger grill and the pizza place were not up to
par. We didn't try the extra-charge restaurant. The cabins were large
and comfortable. Shows were good to indifferent. All that for $499 in an
oceanview cabin. If I need a quick cheap getaway NCL would come only 2nd
to Carnival.

Not necessarily.

The fare for my recent Carnival sailing went down by 150 bucks a week
prior to sailing. My TA (who works for a large company that does a lot
of business) went up and down the corporate ladder and the most they
would do was offer an upgrade. But here's the kicker. I had an outside
1A with portholes and they offered an upgrade to an inside cabin. I
said no thank-you.

Were they smoking something funny? That in no way is an upgrade or at
least one worth taking.

Well, to be fair to Carnival 1A is officially designated as an inside.
But you'd think they would take into consideration that a few are
actually outside cabins. Normally 150 bucks is no great shakes. But
when it's 1/3 of the entire fare paid - it would have been a nice
reduction. The ship didn't sail full. They could have easily bumped me
up to a full sized cabin with windows.

Those who enjoy eating at the buffet so they don't have to put
up with the poor reservation system? When I was on PoH in
August, most people I spoke to said they would never sail on NCL
again (mainly due to the food, but other reasons as well). They
were doing an excellent job of convincing people to travel on
other cruise lines in the future.
