I personally would avoid Orlando and do even when I have to go through
there. However the Harry P. Leu Gardens are nice and the boat tours
of the lakes in Winter Garden are kind of interesting. I second the
recommendation for Lake Wales and Bok Tower. In the old days you
could visit Cypress Gardens and take a boat ride on Silver Springs
without paying an arm and a leg, but no more.
I have never stayed in Ft. Lauderdale, but if you are interested in
lighthouses there are several nice ones to visit from there - Jupiter,
Ponce, Florida Light (in Bill Baggs park in Miami), and even Hillsboro
although you can't go up in that one or even go onto the grounds.
Titusville has a tiny historical museum. The National Police Museum
and the Astronaut Museum, Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, and
Canaveral National Seashore (both sides) is near there too. There's a
zoo in Melbourne, and New Smyrna Beach, Port Orange, and Deland are
interesting.
In addition to St. Augustine, there is a national park at Matanzas
(south of St. Augustine).

I guess I'm still a kid, then. We have made many good trips to
Kissimmee, staying almost always at the Embassy Suites on Jamaican Court.

So, if I'm reading you right, if your cruise starts in Port Canaveral,
you're better off trying to fly into Melbourne. Am I right?

To get to Ft. Lauderdale from where?
When we cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale, we fly into and out of Ft.
Lauderdale, that is the easiest. We wll be flying down on the 4th also
and taking cabs from the airport to the hotel, hotel to ship and then
from the ship to the airport again. I don't remember how much the cabs
cost, but they are very reasonable. There are also hotels you can stay
at that will have a free shuttle.

If you take a look back at my post, I said "Most people who cruise out
of Port Canaveral fly in and out of Orlando".
That post had nothing to do with Fort Lauderdale. I would guess it is
about a four hour drive(give or take a little) from Orlando to Fort
Lauderdale.

FWIW (for what it's worth), Southwest flies non-stoppers between Orlando
and Fort Lauderdale.

The only docks in Ft. Lauderdale that handles cruise ships is
Port Eveglades. The yacht club harbor at Bahia Mar only
handles boats up to 250' and the FLL runways only aircraft.

Brian, read all the posts and you will see that my mind was on other
things and I goofed.

fairly short time. It's close to being in the middle of the keys.
