| | Guest | Hotel accomodations near Cape Liberty? We are booked on the Azamara Journey sailing from Cape Liberty on
Sept.29th...I know that this port is fairly new to the cruise lines and was
once an old military terminal, but I'd like to know if there are any nice
hotels/ motels in the area for just a one night pre-cruise stay? We will be
flying into Newark.
Would Bayonne or Hoboken be the closest to the port?
TIA,

Jean, staying right at Newark/Liberty would probably be your best bet.
If the hotel didn't offer a shuttle, it's about a $35 cab ride to Cape
Liberty.
The Marriott and Doubletree there are both decent. Matter of fact, I've
won the Doubletree on Priceline twice, now, for about $80, and was VERY
happy with the room and service.

| | Guest | Hotel accomodations near Cape Liberty? Jean, I think there's a Hyatt in Jersey City, right on the water, that
overlooks the NY skyline.
Airport hotels will be cheaper, but the Hyatt has the best view.
FWIW, the port is only about 3-4 miles from the airport.

| | Guest | Hotel accomodations near Cape Liberty? Hi, Jean,
We stayed at the Newark/Liberty Airport Marriott twice this spring. We found
it to be surprisingly stylish and very clean and comfortable, and we
received excellent service from all staffers. We met the manager this last
time--he was working the front door greeting guests. Clearly, that kind of
management philosophy trickles down. It is the only hotel on the airport
grounds, but the only plus of being on the grounds is you have ready access
to the train or express bus links to Manhattan in case you plan to go into
the city.
Peri's rec of Doubletree via Priceline is definitely going to be the best
value. When I researched the Cape Liberty area hotels, I came up with a lot
of nothing special properties for fairly high prices. I'm not sure how much
you'll shave off the $35 for the taxi transfer by moving a bit closer to the
port. Although all the literature touts the 3-4 mile distance Tom describes,
it takes about 20 minutes to drive between the port and airport. It felt
like we spent most of the drive time going round and round sequential
spaghetti bowls of highway and throwing a toll out every so often for good
measure!
