Unfortunately, the Subject Line is incorrect, since Grand Turk is not
the Caribbean's newest destination for commercial cruise ships.
The 'newest' destination just had its first visit two weeks ago (2 Jan
2007).
The last time that any commercial cruise ship stopped here was in April
2001 (5 years ago), and even then, only 3 calls were made in that
entire season.
But because I'm not promoting them, I've not included the name of the
cruise line, or the island in question. It is off the beaten path and
would prefer for it to stay that way.
For those who want to verify the facts, the cruise line in question is
listed in this thread's press release and the date of the port of call
is listed above: 2 January 2007. Shouldn't be all that hard for
anyone to find on their own.

Thanks, might have missed it if you hadn't posted a reply. Fortunately,
it wasn't the -other place- I was thinking was off the beaten path so
far and preferred to keep that way. Phew! | |

Not a problem; its a hard balance to keep such places pristine while
offering economic opportunities to their residents that don't result in
runaway development, such as has what has so thoroughly ruined Cozumel.
BTW, when you're referring to the "-other-" place, you're not referring
to the one that had two private Royal visits within the past few years,
are you? I know that Coke/Crsytal have brought their private yacht
into the bay there, but found it a bit tight ... I don't think that HMS
Britannia has come over for quite awhile and I do know that the Royals
have typically been coming over via a BA 747 private charter to then
puddle-jump the rest of the way. As such, hard to call it a 'cruise'.

Some of what I love about Coz is still there, there's just less of it now.

<snipped>
Nope, what you described sounds like a present British territory.
My vote for the next cruise ship destination would go to St. Croix.
Large-ish island with its' own oil refinery and prior cruise ship
experience. | |
