For us there was not much difference is cost . If I booked on my own to Fort
Lauderdale from Halifax I think the flights were $618.00 Taxes in . With
the cruise line it was $650.00 so we let them do the booking. We have no
direct flights to fort Lauderdale only Orlando or St Petes

Fran, I live in NY so flights for me to Florida range in price from $.99
(internet specials on Spirit Air) and up. I just came back from Ft.
Lauderdale about 2 weeks ago and I paid something like $139 or $149 r/t
on Jet Blue. I have 5 major airports in my immediate area to pick from.
You're more limited. In the future just be aware that anything the
Cruise Lines offer you can do it yourself at less the cost. Unless you
just don't care about the price....then go for what is easiest for you.
I just think the Cruise Lines take advantage with alot of their
"services" and air add on is one of them.

Rick I have 1 airport to fly from and the prices for all airlines out of
Halifax are pretty close . You are very lucky. The least expensive flight we
can get for our date is about $600.00 Canadian return . We care about the
price but we are stuck with the most expensive flights . The money we would
save doing it ourselves over the cruiseline is minimal . If we could get a
charter we could get a deal maybe.

I thought the advantage was if you missed the ship sailing and they
booked your airfare it was the cruise line who had to get you to the
first port of call. At their expense (airfare & hotel if needed). Am
I wrong here?

Yes, you are incorrect. The cruise line is only acting as an agent. While
they may stick around a bit longer like in San Juan, they are under no
obligation. That is what insurance is for.
