Default Gaggia - Difficult Portafilter slide into Shower Dic holder - burns coffee

I just got my Gaggia Classic yesterday. I am finding that coffee gets
around the "Shower Disc holder" dries up, and makes it difficult to slide
and lock the portafilter for my second cup. Has anyone else experienced
this, and what can I do?

On my Gaggia it's always worth cleaning the showerscreen and the
seal/gasket area, but even when both are dirty there is no difficulty
locking the portafilter into the grouphead.

Could it be the coffee in the basket pushing against the showerscreen
and stopping you locking the portafilter? To test this, try locking in
the pf with no coffee in the filter basket.

Are you using the single or double filter basket? I think most people
would agree that the double basket is a better bet. You can get a feel
for how much clearance there needs to be between the coffee and the top
of the basket by just holding the basket up to the gasket and noticing
how far the showerscreen assembly protrudes into the basket.

Perhaps these suggestions don't exactly fit your case, given that you
have no problems making the first shot, but worth a try. Hope you're
back on track making shot after shot soon!

A brand new machine??

Is your tamper the correct size? 58 MM, and is it NOT plastic?? The
provided (free) tamper is NOT adequate.

There is NO way you should have this problem, if using a correct
amount of coffee and tamping properly.
