Certainly this is true for those (unfortunate enough) to lack an
adequate espresso setup. Lately I've had a yearning for something to
drink that takes longer than 45 seconds to consume, and lately I've been
consuming some Americanos made with double shots out of my Cimbali and
some boiling water off the kettle (disclosure: $16.99 Costco SS kettle).
I guess I'm from the school that says that drinking water out of your
steam boiler is like taking water out of the sewer :-)
If you have an espresso setup already, especially one you leave on 24/7,
it is a helluva lot easier to make an Americano than it is to futz
around with French Presses, Vac Pots, Chemex/Melita filter setups, et al.

| | Guest | Hamilton Beach I agree with you, with certain caveats:
1. An Americano is a very nice drink but is not quite the same as drip
coffee. Sometimes, you want the taste of drip (or vac or fp) , especially if
you are trying to highlight a varietal coffee.
2. One or two Americanos are quick enough - when I have guests and only 1
or 2 of them want brewed coffee, or I just crave a long drink for myself, I
agree its easier to pull a shot and add some hot water from my InstaHot than
it is to set up a cone. But, if you have 5 or 6 visitors and they each may
want a refill, I'd rather brew a potful and spend time with my guests than
pull 10 shots.

agree on all points. Like many here who predominently drink espresso
beverages, I'm no longer keeping much of a stock of green varietals
since I mostly roast blends now. The only time I'm roasting varietals
these days is when I've got a trip to visit my parents for a week, where
the option is French Press, Bodum Vac Pot, or nuthin'. | |
