Default Illampu circuit / Bolivia

Hi,

we (my girlfriend and me) will travel to Bolivia end of july for 4 weeks. We want to go hiking with
our tent and (if possible) without guide and porters and mules around Illampu circuit. Its not the
money, but I like the freedom to go without a big group.

But I am a little bit confused about the savety situation there. Is it possible (or recommendable)
to go there by our own? Has anybody done the same tour, maybe this year? I read in the LP that it is
not very crowded there? Maybe we can meet two other trekkers in sorata?

Thanks for your help!
Mario

Hi jBatsnsky,

thanks for your comments! Do you have some other recommendations
for us? You did a 5-day trek near Illampu, what was it? Do you
know a good guide agency in Sorata? Did you feel save with your
guide in this area or have you seen armed robbers?

greets
Mario
