Default Oaxaca indigenous market & folklorico at Hotel Maya

I will be in Oaxaca in a few weeks. Does anyone know if they still have
the Indian market on Saturdays and if so, where it is located. It has
been too many years since I was there.

Also, the Hotel Maya used to have a folkloric dinner show. Does anyone
know if they still have it.

One last question. In 1990 I visited an ex-hacienda outside of Oaxaca a
little ways. They had a great little museum the locals had built there,
with some great artifacts in it---mostly dug up by local farmers. Does
anyone know where this might be. I learned about the hacienda in
Terry's Guide to Mexico, circa 1945 edition.

Any help appreciated.

Hi,
The market that I think you're referring to is on Sundays at Tlacolula.
It's my favorite market. You can get out there by bus. The Saturday market
is the huge one in Oaxaca.

The ex-hacienda at Mitla was closed a couple of years ago, and the artifacts
are in storage. It was a gem, and I miss it.

If you've got time, head out to Ocotlan, to see the home of Rudolfo Morales,
one of Oaxaca's greatest artists. His home is beautiful, and they have some
of his works. In addition, there's a great art museum with more of
Morales's work in a renovated old jail at the center of town. It's about a
40 minute ride by bus. Go on Friday and you can catch their weekly market.

Regards,
Terry
