Default Panama City for One Night

We're going birding in Panama and will be spending our last night in
Panama City.

Not ever having been to Panama before, we'd like to stay at something
that's NOT an American style hotel (bed and breakfasts or small pension
like places would be preferable). Anyone have any recommendations or
anti-recommendations?

A couple we've found on the web that we're considering:
La Estancia, in Casco Viejo
La Casa de Carmen, at Via Brazil and Via Espana

There's also Albrook Inn in Balboa -- but we wanted to get in a bit of
souvenir shopping, so don't want to be too far off the beaten path.

Thanks in advance!
April G.

> Other than the "canal" why would anyone ever go to Panama?

Typical ignorant traveller. Read a book. Panama has far more parks
than Costa Rica and a fraction of the tourist. Panama City has advanced
infrastructure and technology, unlike any other city in Central America.
It has the largest trading center in the area. There are many more
reasons.
