Oaxaca to Mexico City -- Air or bus travel

In a few weeks I want to go to Mexico. Found great airfare to Oaxaca
through Mexico City. But I need to spend some time in the DF before
returning home.

1. Is there a way to fly from Oaxaca to Mexico City and lay over a few
days?
2. Would it be better to take a bus from Oaxaca to DF and then back to
Oaxaca to catch my flight home? Or a RT flight from Oaxaca to DF?

Anybody got any good ideas.

Between Oaxaca and DF there is UNO luxury bus service, a non-stop
thruway ride in a first class airline seat. It is much more comfortable
than any airplane and you don't have to schlep through airport security.

The fine print for the airfare you found specify whether that is allowed.
It's usually against the rules but all you've got to lose is the time it
takes you to read the terms and conditions.

I wouldn't bother with a round-trip flight from Oaxaca to Mexico, as the
other posters have said, take the bus -- the deluxe bus services offer
seating that's more spacious and comfortable than first class airplane
seating.

Only point of caution is that the bus goes through some mountains on a
winding road, so if you're prone to car sickness it may not be your best
option.

Have you looked into open-jaw flights?

Oaxaca is a beautiful colonial town
the excursion to Monte Alban is not very much.. compared to other Maya
sites.

Well, it's not a Mayan site which may account for this.
