Default gulf of california

Dear all
I'm Italian and next august I and my family will come in USA.
I'd like to stay 1 week on the beach, and my choice is for the Mexican Gulf
of California, La Paz, for example, or other city.
There aren't many hotels .Why?
Is the beach bad?
Is the sea dangerous? Sharks?
Are people friendly?

Or are there other problems?
I prefer the life on the beach
Tank you
Massimo
Italy

Forget La Paz. Its a bore with little natural stuff to do unless you
like wandering around in the desert. I remember snorkeling just north
of La Paz and the visibility was about 15 cm! Real fun....But that was
the time of the year and at other times the visibility can be good.
Research that. But in Cabo San Lucas (San Jose del Cabo is a bore too)
you have spectacular beaches (snorkeling with the sea lions under the
arches with them nibbling your fins is quite unforgettable), the beach
at the Tres Marias has great snorkeling (saw a turtle 40 cm across -
very peaceful in the water - you'll never have turtle soup after seeing
that!). Never heard of sharks in the area. Its all about visibility.
The winter is best but the water is cool and its hard to stay in for
more than 10 or 15 minutes. In August I don't know about the
visibility. It will be fiercely hot though. Dry heat, but still very,
very hot. I remember talking to an old guy there who said that by 7 am
in the summer he couldn't even touch his metal front door it was so hot
from the sun! Fried food and heat like that don't mix!
