| | Guest | Arrive into Mexico city or Belize? I'm going to be travelling to Guatemala, Belize and the Yucatan province
of Mexico in a few months.
Would it be better to fly into Belize and use that as a starting/ending
point for touring the countries, or would it be just as good to fly into
Mexico City and then take another flight down to the Yucatan province?
Also, can anyone recommend a good cheap no frills airline for flying
from Mexico to Yucatan?
Cheers.

Think about using Cancun airport. Lots of cheap flights in and out, busses
to Belize. | |

There are no provinces in Mexico.

Consider flying into Cancun. Its airport handles tons of international
flights since it's so touristy.
Also, depending where you start from, flying into Belize might mean
transiting through Mexico.

Cheap travel in Mexico is done by bus, not plane. You'd probably be looking
at a good 24-hour bus ride so it's not really an option if time is limited.

ah well I learn something new every day :)
What's Yucatan called ? A 'region' or something?

probably be leaving from London or Amsterdam, whichever offers better
flight deals

that's what I thought. So I'd have to bus it from Mexico City to Cancun
if I went for Mex City? Sounds like it might be a bit of hassle, or is
it an interesting trip to take?

will be leaving from either London or Amsterdam depending on flights. So
Cancun sounds like the best suggestion.

ah ok.. thanks for clearing that up. Ignore the other post I followed
up with!
Thanks for all replies!

| | Guest | Arrive into Mexico city or Belize? Your e-mail appears to have originated in Ireland but from the U.S. one
would fly to Cancun; do that if you can.You can explore the whole Mexican
Yucatan Peninsula by bus from there. If you have the resources rent a small
car. Nothing will be more than a day, day and a half drive away, and you if
you explore site by site there will be no long drives. You can also take a
bus from Cancun to Belize City (you might have to change at the border).
Also there have been scheduled flights from Cancun to Belize City: I've used
them. From Belize City you can explore by bus but best by rental car; new
rental, Car companies generally do not allow you to cross borders. From
Belize City there are buses (one change) to Flores and Tikal in the
Guatemala Peten. The distance is not great, travel should take part of a
day. From there you can take a bus to Guatemala City (long trip) You could
probably fly back economically from Guatemala City. I don't see any reason
to fly to Mexico City. Out of the way for the region your interested in.
Belize City would be a better choice.

thanks for the advice mate.
Yep I'll be flying from Ireland via either London or Madrid.
As far as I can make out from travel agents, though, the best deal seems
to be to fly to Mexico City (only 600 euros including taxes), but I
can't seem to find an airline that flies direct to Cancun
nuts :(
Ah well I suppose I can head into Guatemala from the north-west and then
loop around into Belize and up to Cancun, then bus it back to Mexico
City taking in Yucatan in the process.
