Default Ciudad del Este from Iguassu Falls

I will be in Iguassu Falls and would
like to visit the market in Cuidad
del Este, Paraguay. I carry a US
passport and normally a visa is
required for Paraguay. I am wondering if the restrictions are
relaxed to permit the tourists
at Iguassu Falls (Brazil and Argentina) to cross easily across
the Friendship Bridge to shop
in Paraguay.

US citizens do NOT require a visa for Paraguay. The only place in latin
america that requires a visa for US citizens is Brazil.

There are buses that will take you across the bridge and as I recall,
they were brazilian run and took guaranis, reals or USD.

Visas Overview
For a stay of up to three months, foreigners from neighbouring countries
only need national ID cards and do not require a visa. US citizens require a
visa, as do Canadians, Australians and New Zealanders, who also need a
spotlessly clean police record, a bank statement and a desire to pay a fee
of up to 50.00.

I thik your comment re visas is not correct. I needed one as a Canadian in
2003. See above from Lonely Planet
