Default non-AI beach vacation (mexico?)

Hi all,
looking for a spot to vacation next winter. I want a location where
everything is accessible on foot (from hotel to beach to restaurants,
etc..). I don't do all-inclusives as I like to sample as many restaurants
as I can. I like to walk around in pedestrians zones. We'll be going with
a young child (5y.o).

All suggestions are welcome!

i suggest Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen, or "PV", but even there, I
don't think, "everything is accessible on foot", with a 5 year old...
They get tired pretty quick...

I agree with Don...Isla Mujeres is just about the best place to go with a
child. The beach is exceptional, the food is amazing and the people are
wonderful. If you stay around Playa Norte everything is within a short
walk. PV would be my next choice. There are some wonderful places around
"Old Town" where the hotels are reasonable, right on the beach or within a
short walk. And the best food, both street food and restaurants, you could
find! Lots of great little shops and as in all of Mexico, the bus system is
great.
