Default Best way around the Darien Gap?

Going south, what is the best way around the Darien Gap?

Is flying the only reasonable mode? Or is there a particular port
in Panama or Costa Rica where one might find water transportation to
Ecuador or Columbia? What would one expect to pay for passage on a ship
or yacht?

TIA.

I was wondering the same thing. I don't have an answer for you, just
that at the moment, I'm considering taking the plane from Panama City
down to Quito. I have a few travel guides and none of them mention boat
travel in the area. By the way, it is recommended that you keep away
from Colombia altogether.

Ah, Brian. Such an imagination. Been watching a lot of television
lately?

The problem with the Darien gap is not people who kidnap and kill,
but the lack of a road.

Sorry to disappoint you.

Having been there, I can assure everyone here that the dangers in this
area are very real, very serious, and should not be minimized.

Thanks for your excellent response. You probably just saved a few
lives.

Peter,

if youw ant to go to Ecuador just take the airplane.
Quito and guayaquill can be fly in from panama city for UNDER US$ 350,-
(two way trip)

To Colombia (cartagena) you can fly directly from panama city with
Avianca fe.
Bogota is also an option.

Please do NOT try to go walking/hiking through darien gap!!!!!!!!!

There are some boats (cargo) that go from panama to Colombia. But I
doubt that you could get on board. Unless you speak fluent spanish, can
mis some $$$$ and are very adventurous type of person.

be safe....take the plane.
