Patagonia by car and Ruta 40

Hi all,
I'm going to rent a car to do a trip in Patagonia, from Trelew to
Ushuaia. I'm going to visit Valdes Peninsula, Cuevas de los manos, RUTA
40, Los Glaciares Park, Torres del Paine Park, Punta Arenas, Ushuaia.
I have a BIG doubt about RUTA 40: is it necessary to have a Jeep or a
Pick-up to drive on Ruta 40? Is it sufficient a normal compact car
(like a Volkswagen Golf?).
The price for the jeep is the double of the compact car.

You will be OK with a conventional car. R40 is no worse than a lot of the
roads in ARG.
