I'm guessing you meant Huatulco.
Some people are just looking for a vacation at a place with decent
weather, a nice beach and a few good restaurants, not a cultural
experience.

These days the same can be said of Playa del Carmen.
On this issue I'd give the advantage to Aculpulco because many parts of
the city are not heavily impacted by tourists, but many people are looking
for these heavily touristed areas and the advantages they offer for those
who are more interested in sun and sand than cultural tourism. At this point
the OP hasn't told us what he's interested in and what would be a pro or
what would be a con.

| | Guest | Cancun Vs Aculpulco I didn't want to bias the conversation up front by stating my
preferences.
For my taste somewhere like Puerto Vallarta is very good. You
can have the massive commercialisim when you want that on the
hotel strip. But the city itself still retains Mexican
character everywhere, and you have cobblestone streets, old
buildings, etc. You can get away to north of Punta Mita and see
more traditional Mexican coastal community lifestyles and
culture, and enjoy some remoteness. You can fly (and now more
easily drive) to Talpa and surrounding communities in the
mountains, and experience that real Mexican mountain culture.
Puerto Vallarta is also a short flight away from Guadalajara,
which is a major urban center.
I like the variety that this offers, and you could probably plan
four different vacations to this one area and have four pretty
different experiences. I like ocean, mountains, and good food.

| | Guest | Cancun Vs Aculpulco Acapulco has more of a mexican flavor, in my experience. Most of the
visitors are Mexican. Also a wider range of accommodations, from cheap
to expensive. Cancun is almost indistinguishable from a resort in the
USA, in my view, and is basically for Americans and other first world
residents. Cancun has better ruins within day tour distance, but no
mountains in the Yucatan. Probably more eco-tourism type of
opportunities in the Yucatan.
You may prefer Puerto Vallarta to either Acapulco or Cancun, depending
on your taste, but perhaps you just want to try something different.
However, a lot depends on where you stay. If you stay in a resort for
Americans your experience will be different than if you stay in a hotel
frequented by Mexicans.

| | Guest | Cancun Vs Aculpulco Senor Pescado is correct, hands down Acapulco that offers everything
from major resorts to quaint local hotels surrounded by beaches and
mountains with a wide range of activities, restaurants and nightlife.
The only thing Cancun has is close proximity to the Mayan ruins.
Otherwise it is a plastic resort that has nothing at all to do with
Mexico. | |
