Default Trip reports - Puerto Morelos and Chichen Itza

Things have changed just over last summer. They stopped the old car
ferry (don't know where the boats went to), and then someone brought in
the one pictured and tried to start it again. They ran for a little
while and then it got damaged and sank. One of the local dive shops is
trying to get enough money put together to tow it out and sink it as an
articial reef.

Interesting, thanks. I would not have gotten on that ferry on a bet. It
really isn't suitable for that run. Not having the car ferry running must be
making things interesting on Cozumel. That was how most of the larger stuff
got out there.

Looks like they've moved the commercial operation down the coast to
Calica. There's a big new turn off of 307 and a big brick sign. They
take rental cars, but only with special permission from the rental car
company.

Calica/Cozumel Car Ferry
Cost: $ 5 per passenger, $55 any size truck or car.
Time: 2 hours
Tel: Maritima Chankanaab, (984) 872-0827
Departure from Calica Dock: 10:00 AM, 7:00 PM
Departure from Cozumel: 8:00 AM, 5:30 PM

If it's anything like the old car ferry, you need to get there a good
couple of hours before she sails to get a spot.
