| | Guest | driving through central america I'm planning to drive basically to Panama from Salt Lake City. I am
familiar with Nicaragua, and Costa Rica, and have traveled through
Several South American countries, but was curious if anyone could offer
any details regarding driving through Mex, Guatamala, Honduras, etc...
I am currently planning on doing this mission solo, which I'm begining
to battle with my self whether or not this is a stupid decision, but
it's hard to find any of my friends who have the time/$$'s to join me
on the trip. I want to do this really bad, and am super excited about
it, but am begining to grow a little nervous. I'm especially looking
for any info on Driving through Gutamala, because through my research
it sounds the sketchiest to drive through. Any info would be
appreciated.

| | Guest | driving through central america Hi Nick,
What a coincidence! I'm also in Salt Lake City, and getting ready to hit the
road for an even longer trip. I'm originally from Brazil, finished school
here in the US and I'm driving my old FJ60 (Toyota Land Cruiser) Back home!
Of course I'm shipping the car from the Channel to Ecuador.
I got one friend joining me already, but we are looking for a 3rd wheel...
to make things easier in several ways.
I have traveled a lot, but never in Central/Latin America. Being Brazilian,
and speaking Portuguese, I think I'll be ok with the Spanish... and
situations I'll encounter.
Drop me a line in pvt, or even here, if you're interested.
Sorry I got no real experience (yet) about driving through this countries...
But I agree w/ you. According to my readings, Guatemala is the toughest
spot.
