Default Cancun to Guatemala

I'm considering a bus-trip south to Belize and then to Tikal and on to Lake
Atitlan. Anyone out there have any experience on this route? how many hours
of actual bus travel, the cost ?(roughly) . and possibly flying back to
Cancun. Many thanks for any response.

From downtown Cancun bus terminal get on a 1st class bus to Chetumal.
Chetumal has two bus terminals so if you can't find something it is
because you'll find it at the other terminal.
There are a few 2nd class busses to Belize City. From there you can get
a bus to Cayo and the border. You then walk accross and get on a Rosita
bus to Santa Elena/Flores. For Tikal, get off the bus at El Cruce, the
road intersection for El Remate and Tikal. El Remate has a lot of food
and lodging choices and is 20 minutes away from Tikal.
There is also a luxo Linea Dorada bus direct from Chetumal to Flores for
around $50.00
Flores-Cancun can be done in one day if you get a direct Flores-Chetumal
service.
There are two 1st class lines from Flores to Guate City (7 hrs). From
there it will be 2nd class and 3-4 hrs to Panajachel.
It is also possible and very interesting to go Flores-Sayaxche and on to
Coban on a paved road most of the way. From Coban it is possible to head
directly west, over the mountains by bus and pick-up. Or just take the
paved road back down through the capital.
Enjoy! And tell us about it when you come back.
