moving stuff to Mexico If their residency papers are in order, your folks are entitled to bring
down household goods free of import duties. If not, expect to pay duties on
all the stuff you take down. A trailer will add a lot (50%; you pay per
axle) to tollroad fees, which are already quite high. The trailer, like all
other "vehicles" will have to be insured and and it will be included with
your papers. That means they'll be looking for you to take it home with you,
or you can expect to pay a heavy "import tax" on the trailer. The only other
way to off it legally is to donate it to the mexican government, by leaving
it at a federal "reten", or vehicle storage yard, with the proper papers
saying that you are willfully giving up the vehicle (trailer). Of course,
like everything else in Mexico, all of this can be "worked out" if you know
the right guy to pay a mordida to........Howard
