Trekking in Patagonia: questions I will be visiting south Chile and Argentina in February-March and
have a few questions:
1) I plan to do a trek in Parque Nahuel-Huapi (Bariloche), then
immediately go to Puerto Montt (by boat through the lakes and by foot
from Pto Frias via Paso de Perez Rosales).
- any recommendation on places to stay near the Parque Nahuel-Huapi?
Example: Colonia Suiza, or near Llao Llao?
- in Peulla, is there only one hotel or are there any other places to
stay?
- do I need to buy a map of Parque Nahuel-Huapi and when crossing the
border? Is the track easy to follow?
- I read that it is forbidden to take unprocessed food when crossing
the border. What is meant by unprocessed food?
2) I plan to do a trek in the Fitz Roy.
- is it possible to rent a tent or do you recommend to take my own?
- how many days do you recommend in Fitz Roy?
- is the track easy to follow? is it imperative to have a good map?
3) General:
- Is it easy to find canister (butane-propane mix)? Where?
- Is it easy to buy dehydrated food? Where?
- Do I need a compass, a GPS?
- Is it easy to find maps of the different national parks (Paine, Fitz
Roy, Nahuel Huapi,…)? Where?
Any information, advice, recommendation would be highly appreciated!!
Thanks!
