cancun to belize

Two gringo Alaskans: Please share info on great non-tourista
things/places to stay/see/do! We have 3 weeks in dec/jan to play. I
am a believer that the less money you spend usually the more adventure
you have, however splurges for fantastic experiences are in the budget
too!

Belize:

1. Cayo district: Xunantunich, Cahal Pech, Mountain Pine Reserve,
Blancaneaux Lodge
2. Orange Walk, Corozal: Lamanai
3. Placencia: Beaches, snorkeling, food (take the Ocean Motion boat to
the Silk Cayes).
4. Ambergris: snorkeling, food, shopping
5. Belize City: Avoid at all costs but you might want to stop in
Belmopan for a night if you'd like to see the excellent zoo, The Blue
Hole, Five Blues Lake. The Hummingbird Highway is one of the most
scenic. Drive to Over The Top and have lunch.

Belize is a wonderful place.

hi again-thanks for the belizean info! how about the cancun to belize
portion? my sweet heart & I are doing the bus thing in December. He
has never traveled out of the US so a mexican bus (and even more so of
course a chicken-bus) will be an adventure. the less stressful and
planned i can make our journey, at least to start, the better. I hope
to break the trip into a few days by stopping at Mexican villages on
the way down, but don't really have the specifics figured out yet.
