Default Argentina - Buenos Aires

Hi All, does anyone have any information about B.A.? I'm travelling there in
a few weeks, and I'd like to know what areas of the city are best to avoid
as a tourist.

Any additional info would be great also.

Cheers.

I am very glad to read that I was helpful to Runge in preparing his
trip here. For us naturals it is very easy to avoid dangerous places,
as we consider 99% safe. As the town is huge, you have to go many
kilometers to find dangerous places (that's what he means by suburbs:
you have no suburbs nearer than 10 kilometers from downtown, up to 40
kilometers), but you may also meet a thief just in downtown, at 2 a.m.
It is more important your attitude than the district. Always at ease
and showing that you watch the other people. I am sorry to say I'm 59
and have NEVER been attacked in ANY sense, NOR seen a crime against
other people, EVER, in front of me. Forgive me if I am optimistic, but
if experience is important, you must accept that I can be such a guy.

About what John says, I use to chat with friends till 3 or 4 a.m.
waching the waterfront in La Boca and in other riverside districts.
Perhaps I deserve a good big robber around, don't I?

Oscar:

I was once in La Boca at night (perhaps around ten o'clock), right at the
water's edge near a bridge of some sort, talking with Argentine relatives
who had taken me there in order to have dinner.
We had no problems. I only suggest that people not go there alone at night
because it seems to me that it might be easy to walk off into a deserted
street and find yourself in trouble.

I apologize if I gave the wrong impression. I like Buenos Aires, and
Argentina generally; I have never had a problem on my four trips there,
whether in a taxi, on a colectivo, or on the subte in Buenos Aires, nor on
planes or buses in other parts of the country.

I agree with Oscar about attitude. I have sometimes seen someone showing
too much interest in what I or my wife
were doing but if you look at them in a manner that clearly shows that they
have been 'noted' by either of us and that words
seem to pass between us, their interest seems to quickly subside.
Such occasions have been rare tho', normally we, in our early 60's, never
feel threatened, but .......

cheers, philip Tasmania, Oz

John:

Your record as a lover of this country is very well known, and never
your words would be misunderstood. I just have a handicap in my lack
of criminal experience, that's why I never fear anything here. But I
must accept that some assaults have been terrifying.

As a professor of Logic would say, there is at least another one...
Thank you, Harvey. (I feel like Jimmy Stewart).
