| | Guest | Mexico City: Taxi $50 airport to Zona Rosa? Our hotel in Zona Rosa quoted $50 for one way airport pickup service.
This seems steep compare to what I've read from the guide books. We
are a family of 4 so perhaps the price is for a bigger car? or is this
price too un-reasonable? I'm aware of the taxi robberies so perhaps
the extra $$ will buy some peace of mind and convenience (we're
arriving at night on X'mas eve).
If we take the "transportatcion terrestre", will we all fit in one car
with 1 large and 2 small luggages?
Does anyone one have pictures of these "orange/white" airport taxis?
What does these "official taxi stand" look like? Picture paints a
thousand words!
How about going up to Hilton on the 3rd floor and have them get us a
taxi?
Any help is much appreciated.

I believe I paid $20 for a single passenger to Centro which isn't that far
from Zona Rosa. The official taxi stands are quite obvious and they have a
map with zones in it and prices. From my experience it is safe. I cannot say
if $50 is the correct price for four people and I think only you can say
what the price for peace of mind and convenience.

If you get your taxi at the airport through the booth by buying a ticket,
you will be very safge and sure of not being ripped off. The Hotel fare is
higher, because you're actually paying for both ways.
ALWAYS take taxis from Sitos (official taxi stands).
Enjoy,

Last I flew into MEX, I asked for the official taxi stand at the information
counter and they pointed me in the right direction. As I walked up to it, a
man in a suit with a clipboard approached me and asked if I needed a taxi in
the best English I heard from a Mexican the duration of my trip. He seemed
legit enough so I told him where I had to go. Thankfully I'd asked the girl
working at the hostel how much a taxi would be, because this guy quoted me a
price about 3x higher, so I declined his offer and got a cab from the
official taxi wicket.
Moral of the story: Don't trust anyone who's not manning the official taxi
wicket. Doesn't matter how official they look, how many clipboards,
walkie-talkies or whatever else they have. Just ask at information if you're
unsure where the stand is and then deal with the people at the stand.
Two years ago, the airport to the Zona Rosa cost approx $15 USD for an
official but regularly-sized taxi.

There are booths both inside the secure area, by the luggage pick-
up, and in the general terminal, both in International and Domestic
arrivals.
