Mexico City X'mas Eve 10pm too late for taxi?

We have reservation that arrives in Mexico City 10pm on Dec 24th.
Will we have trouble getting a taxi from the airport to our hotel
(haven't booked yet) that late on X'mas Eve?

Not in my experience. The airport, and its main support services
operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and the holiday times are well
staffed since that is when most people do in fact travel.

I am not sure what hotel you are staying at, but a few of them have
shuttles to and from the airport. You may want to check with your hotel.

No problem!! Hire your taxi at the taxi booth inside the airport.
to avoid being ripped off.

The taxis at the airport in Mexico City are regulated. You buy your
ticket depending on which zone your destination (hotel) is and the
price is fixed. All you do is give your driver your ticket and away
you go.

The private taxis (called en sitio) or on site do not have meters or
markings. They usually just work outside certain hotels and
restaurants. Usually just asking the hotel or restaurant for their
own taxis is all you have to do. The advantage is if one of those
guys gives you a problem they are known to the hotel and restaurants
and would get caught or lose thier rights to the location.

Most people in Mexico are honest including the metered taxis off the
street. It's usually the english speaking vendors etc I distrust.
Speaking Spanish sure helps in that you connect with a much wider
range of people. Any attempt at speaking is appreciated.

You certainly won't have any difficulties getting from the airport to
your hotel by taxi. Aeropuerto Benito Juarez, Mexico City is not a
tink tiny airport in some remote little village, but an international
airport in probably the hugest city in the world. Thus the counter of
"Taxis Autorizados" where you buy your taxi ticket will definitely be
open as long as the airport remains open on Christmas Eve. Good luck
and please don't forget to leave for Mexico with at least a couple of
Spanish words in your luggage. Like this you'll not only get to know a
country but also its' lovely population.
