Default Going from La Paz to Lago Titicaca

Hello,

any recommendations for going from La Paz to Lago Titicaca? There seem
to be different kind of of bus services available. When adding a visit
at Tiahuanaco, is it advisable to spend the night there (provided there
is some kind of accommodation), or better to continue teh same day to
Lago Titicaca?

it's not so far from the lake. if you go with a tour agency tell them to
drop you off somewhere along the way so you can catch a local bus from
there. i saw a couple of places to stay at tiwanaku but the tour is done in
a couple of hours or so, no need to stay the night really. however, it's
not advisable to go that direction at all at the moment [in case you haven't
heard about the recent unrest in the news]. i was just there a couple of
weeks ago and returning to la paz from tiwanaku took twice as long as we had
to take the rough dirt road through indigenous farmers' fields. there were
blockades everywhere along the way. we also got stopped and demanded a
'donation' by young men covering the motorway with rocks while an army of
men lined the hills on both sides of the road. [tiwanaku is more
enjoynable/understandable if you have a guide who explains things on the
spot]

Default Going from La Paz to Lago Titicaca

A few years ago my daughter and I took a bus from LaPaz to Copacabana on
Lake Titicaca. Our hotel recommended the bus line. One thing that
surprised us is that you need reservations. We got delayed to a bus later
in the day than we had planned. It would be worthwhile to have your hotel
phone with reservations or take a trip there a day or two before you plan to
leave. We had no problems on the trip. It was great. The bus was ferried
at one point...very cool.
