Default CUBA advise

Hi.
We are going to Cuba in a few weeks from the UK.
Just wondered whats the best form of currency
or travelers cheques to take ?
And should we take small gifts as tips or money ?
Ant advise welcomed.
Cheers
Jeff

Forget the travellers cheques, they are difficult to cash and when you do
cash them, they charge you a hefty fee.

Take Sterling or the Euro.

Make sure that your credit card is not associated with a US bank. Visa and
Mastercard. What I do before visiting Cuba is deposit money into the Visa
card and withdraw money as needed.

Forget ATM's in Cuba. 95% of the ATM's are for Cuban use.
Very few for tourist use. They also have a habit of swallowing your card.

Take plenty of cash. Your hotel will give a fair rate.

We had both US & Cndn $ & hotel changed them.

We did have trouble with the ATM's in Varadero
& bank line-ups were terrible.

Take soap, shampoo, toothpaste to give hotel employees
as well as leaving some money.

They take everything!

Yes, do so, they want and need everything. They must live in a poor
dictatorship, they have no internet, no free press, no satellite TV, lots of
secret police, no freedom and so on.
And don´t stay at the hotel Inglaterra in Havana. There are thiefs and steal
your money from the luggage.

Cheers
Othmar
