Default Entry to Dominican Republic

Has anyone successfully entered(and exited) the Dominican Republic with just
a birth certificate/driver's license without a passport ?

Good luck!
It's a 3rd world country,a lot of armed guards and armed people.All
luggage was hand searched leaveing the airport coming home.
The people were very friendly, but they want to sell you everything,
kind of like Cozumel.
But it was one of the best trips for the money I've had in a while,be
sure to go all-inclusive,that way everything is paid for,I mean
everything!

Our luggage wasn't searched, although some was. We came back from
there yesterday.

I didn't think it was particularly cheap.
