| | Guest | Aruba - November 2005 Trip - Hotel & Rest. Info Hey guys, the topic is about my trip to Aruba and some travel tips.
The subject is NOT "Aruba Kidnapping update".
Start a new thread as DR. Phil, Oprah, and Twitty have nothing to do
with getting a good steak and salad in aruba.
Thanks. | |

Well in keeping with your topic, I was there in 2003 and stayed at the
Renaissance which is right downtown in downtown Oranjestad across from the
marina. The selection of shopping and restaurants within walking distance
there was much greater than up north along the main hotel strip. I rode the
bus up there to the Holiday Inn to go on the glass bottom boat tour. When
up there, I found that most of those tourists were catching the bus downtown
after a few days of shopping and dining up there While there was no beach
next to the hotel, a boat came into a lagoon in the lobby and took you to a
private island just offshore. | |

Call us any names you want. We don't even have cable. Everyone knows
who murdered that girl, but money talks and the murderer's family has
plenty.
We just have no desire to return to such a corrupt island when there
are so many other places to choose from. Sorry if that offends you.

Oh Lordy Lordy. God help those who cannot see. I'm sure aliens
abducted her and took her back to their planet in a nifty spaceship.
Is that your working theory??? Sounds plausible to us!!!
Seriously... Thanks anyway but we've already found other, far nicer
vacation spots to visit that aren't plagued with corrupt police &
government officials and unpunished murderers. Aruba never really
appealed to us that much anyway. It was always warm and cheap... but
not much else.

We certainly agree! Nothin' better than a "good steak and salad" to
clear the mind of corrupt politicians and messy murder cases!

Absolutely. If you shop around, air fares and charter packages to
Aruba from Boston are cheaper than anywhere else in the Caribbean
except maybe Cancun and the Bahamas. That's the main reason we went
there (and the main reason why some graduating high school woman went
there too... unfortunately).
Aruba is not exactly a pretty nor close nor exotic island. It's a
windy, warm beach and not much else. It certainly didn't become so
popular with Americans because of a reputation for high cost.

| | Guest | Aruba - November 2005 Trip - Hotel & Rest. Info Aruba can be defined as "A desert island in the middle of the ocean
"The sand is always in the air. If you decide to go make sure you rent
a car 4x4 and drive the island, check the car company's before you go,
and brush up on your international driving signs. Your travel agency
should be able to guide you to a reputable rental company. Nice
Italian restaurant where the ships come in, we had a good meal there,
I think it was called Momma Mia's, not sure we were there 4 years ago.
It also has a small island off the coast that has great snorkeling,
not much night life other then casinos.
Have fun

I've been all over South & Central America on business. Brazil in
particular was a very beautiful and vibrant country, but you are
right... the air fares to get there were very high (although the
hotels and food were quite reasonable). Being American, I also had a
lot of trouble with immigration and customs. It's their retaliation
policy for our alleged mistreatment of Brazilians wanting to come
here. It makes travel there quite uncomfortable at times.
I agree with you that the DR is quite reasonable. I should have added
that to my list.
I think folks are misinterpreting my statement about Aruba being
relatively inexpensive to visit. I was referring solely to charter
prices out of Boston and nothing else... although the bus into town
was a bargain and rental cars were cheap too. Food ranged all over
the place... from extremely cheap to very expensive (as it can be most
anywhere).
It is all a matter of supply and demand for air travel and hotel
rooms. For whatever reason, they make Aruba very attractive
(price-wise) from my particular area. Simple as that.
