Default where to go in Cuba

We are going to Cuba in Feb/Mar.for two weeks. We have never been there
before and want some information. We are in our 50's. Want to be right on
the ocean with lots of beach to walk on. We are looking for an all inclusive
that is close to a village that can be visited easily.
Anyone have good suggestions.
Thanks

For first-timers, you can't miss with Vardero and has the advantage to being
close to Havana, which I presume you would want to see. On subsequent
visits, the area around Santiago de Cuba is less touristy but harder to get
to and farther away from Havana. In either case, definitely go with the
all-inclusive because trying to find restaurants on your own could be an
exercise in futility because they are few and far between.

? Not if you take an evening stroll anywhere in Havana. You will
be snagged by dozens of people trying to get you to visit private
restaurants, in people's houses. (They are paid touts). The
private restaurants are cheap, and serve a decent meal. They
aren't usually legal though.

If you stay in B & B, the owners are usually more than happy to
provide dinner too for a small price, although they're not usually
permitted. Keep it under your hat and everyone is happier.

Do we want to see Havana? We are looking more for the beaches and smaller
town or village experiences. We are not really interested in the city life,
or is crazy to not see Havana at least once? We are use to all inclusive
and that is the way to go. Is there any all inclusive resort that you have
been to and found to be great.
Thanks for your comments.

Well, from my point of view it IS crazy not to see Havana, even for just an
afternoon. It's a beautiful old colonial city, even if it is in need of a
facelift. The old city has been somewhat restored for tourists. There is a
lot of history there, both European and American. But if none of that
appeals to you...only you can decide.

Sarah :-)
