Some Islands, Barbados, St. Barts, St. Lucia for example are pricier to
visit than say Dominica, St. Kitts, Tobago. Does that mean the expensive
islands have more to offer than the less expensive or is it just a case
of popularity?

It's more a case of standard of living of the populace. A higher
standard of living means it's more expensive to visit. People that
are dirt poor can be paid much less money than people that want a good
wage and health care.

Chrissy-I'm going by "Fodors Guide to the Caribbean". It rates islands
by cost to visit. Barbados, St. Barts and the Cayman Islands are rated
the most expensive. Dominica, the Domican Republic, Saba, St. Eustatius
and Trinidad are rated the least. I assume they are referring to the
cost of lodging and dining.

Barbados and Grand Cayman are not overly expensive, but St. Barts is. A
grilled cheese sandwich was $22.

Actually, Tobago has a quite good standard of living. The children
look healthy and happy; houses, while not fancy, are handsome. I
believe there's universal healthcare. Because Trinidad and Tobago has
revenue from oil, there seem to be a number of government social
programs.. Literacy levels are high.

St. Lucia,

Tobago is hard to get to from the U.S., but, in the past several years,
it's begun to receive planeloads full of people from England (mainly)
on all-inclusive charter packages. Until recently, it also was one of
a few Caribbean islands to require U.S. visitors to have passports,
which may have discouraged some U.S. travelers.
