| | Guest | So, whats up with Belize? Wife is looking forward to a late 5 year anniversary trip. She wants to go
somewhere tropical but not like Cancun (already been there, done that). She
initially started talking about Aruba or Antigua. We did some research and
discovered these destinations are a little bit out of our target price
(upwards of $2.5 to $3K). Have had several suggestions to look at Belize.
Initial research shows a trip to BZE would be cheaper.
But how does Belize (like one of the northern cayes) stack up to a tropical
destination like Antigua? How are the beaches? From pictures I have seen,
they look great but some look like seaweed or grasses are prevalent near the
beach.
If someone could give me some additional ammunition to sell my wife on the
Belize experience, I would be grateful. That is if BZE would fit what she
is looking for. | |

It sounds like you are ready to explore the Caribbean. Have you
considered taking a cruise? You can see 4 different islands on a 7-day
Caribbean cruise, this way you can see where you would enjoy spending
more time.
You can cruise for less than $2.5 to $3K and that includes all of your
meals and your nightly entertainment. The casino and alcoholic
beverages are extra.

Where would you recommend staying (where you can snorkel outside your
hotel)? We are looking for luxury accomodations, 2 bedroom condo-type
places, if available, but are flexible. All-inclusive would be ok but
not necessary. It will just be DH, myself and our infant son.
TIA for any info.

The Palms. It is very nice acco with kitchen, quiet pool and next door to
Ramon's. Ramon's having the best dock snorkelling. Despite JJ's post,
there is not really good shore snorkelling at San Pedro. The good
snorkelling is done from boats, at Hol Chan, Shark/Ray Alley, Mexico Rocks,
etc. That said, under the end of the dock at Ramon's, there are still some
wonderful, wonderful fish and creatures to be seen and from time to time,
even a nurseshark or two will also cruise by. The dock has a palapa for
shade and so you or your spouse, could be with the baby while the other is
in the water and switch off with one another.

Again, the Palms. Don't do Ramon's, over-priced for what you get. Another
is Banyan Bay but it is much further south of town and not near Ramon's
dock. :^)

There are no true AI's on Ambergris Caye and that is a wonderful thing.

Ask me anything you want, I'll do my best to answer. I've been there 6
times for a total in excess of 100 days. | |

Wow - thanks for the info. It's hard to decide just where to go and
where to stay.
What time of year is best to go? What airlines are most convenient
from the states? (We are coming from the West Coast, if that matters.)

Depends on when you want to go. For me, anytime of year is good. Well, not
quite. Summer is very hot and muggy and has the chance of hurricanes.
November through June, with mid-Feb to end of May as optimum.
