Default More places like Isla Mujeres please!

Hi all!
Last year I was suggested on these newsgroups to bring my little family to
Isla Mujeres, Mx, which I did last January.

Isla was everything I could possibly hope for. My 4 yo had a blast, so did
we. We stayed at Posada Del Mar, which was more than adequate.

Now, I'm already in pre-planning mode for the next January vacation, I'm
looking for more of the same, but somewhere else just for the sake of seeing
different places. It seems like there is a lot of buzz about Belize and
Costa Rica.

I'd be great to hear from you guys about Isla - similar places in these
regions.

Thanks!
Sylvain

Is one beach recommended over the other?
In other words, is one more protected from winds,
waves, etc.?
Cabarete appears to have some very nice, beachfront
condos reasonably priced.

Cabarete is listed as a windsurfer's paradise, which
usually means large winds and waves.
Both beaches appear to be on the north shore of the DR,
which would indicate a non-protected coast.
I guess I prefer less wave action such as Negril.
