| | Guest | Venezuela info please!!! I am flying to Margarita Island in Venezuela this Wendsday and wonder if
anyone would be able to give me some information about this destination.
1. Is it true you can exchange US dollars for Bolivaro at better rate at the
black market then the banks?
2. Can anyone recommend excursion provider to Angel Falls? I am looking for
cheap one and maybe shorter trip than the usual 3 days.
3. Is it better to schedule your trip to Salto Angel from Ciudad Bolivar or
from Canaima? Which option is cheaper?
4. Taking a trip on Orinoco river, any suggestions? I thought about Puerto
Ordaz or Ciudad Bolivar.
5. Flying from Margarita Island to the main land, any suggestions on
pricing, connections etc?
6. Safety while in Venezuela, any recent updates?
Walter.

I've been there last december.
Exchanging dollars to Bolivars can be done at the black market.
At the moment the rates are about 1$ 2450 Bolivars.
There are several places where you can do this safely.
In Playa el Agua for example (Ask for a dutchman called Henk he has a
restaurant called Pappa's hutspot)
In Porlamar (Beachclub Miss Playaoppositr Hotel Maria Louisa)
Be carefull changing money in the street, because they try to rip you off or
give you counterfit money.
Tours to Angelfalls were round about 150$ for 3 days (booked on Isla
Margarita.)
There are many touroperators and prices can be different every day.
Booking the tour in Ciudada Bolivar is cheaper. But you have to go from
Isla to Ciudad. So all together I think it won't make a big difference.
Flying to the mainland for expl Caracas coasts about 40$ (depending on the
day, time and company you want to fly with) AeroPostal is one of the
cheapest.
Safetyness:
Depends on where you are. Big parts of Caracas are not recommended to be
safe.
On Isla you are recommended to take taxis at nighttime. They are very
cheap.
We encountered no problems at all during our stay (30 days) on Isla and the
main country.

| | Guest | Venezuela info please!!! Ben,
Who did you take from Isla Margarita to Angel Falls with for $150? Sounds
like really good deal. Would you be able to give me the name and contact
info of the agent/travel agency you booked with?
Walter.
