Default Best Resort SCUBA course for 11 year old

Has anyone done a SCUBA course with their kids while in Mexican
Riviera? I wil have 15,13,11 year old children and thought I saw
something about Resort-type classes taking kids as young as 8.
Are they recommended?

I don't like those resort courses period. My son was SCUBA certified when he
was 15, and he was BARELY mature enough to be a good dive buddy. I'd suggest
sticking with snorkeling until you can get them properly certified, but
that's just my opinion.

The PADI resort course isn't meant to leave you thinking you're
qualified for anything. It is purely a safe 'taster' to let you
know whether it's worth you spending all that time in the
classroom and pool. (Or rather, to inspire you to do it, since
surely anyone who has a great tropical dive will want to do
it again :-) Still, some people just aren't cut out for it,
and it does tell them whether they are.

The resort course should be done one-on-one with an instructor,
so the new diver is only the buddy for a certified instructor.

My husband is PADI and I am NAUI and neither of us would even consider
this for any deep diving......just thought it might be a possible safe
introduction at shallower depths.
