IMHO there isn't much to tour on Grand Cayman.
Do you snorkel? And are you OK with petting friendly stingrays?
For a fun afternoon take a snorkel trip to Stingray City or Sandbar.
Chances are your cruise line already has an operator for this visit.

| | Guest | Grand Cayman Would be interested in hearing comments about a vacation to Grand Cayman.
We are looking for a vacation to relax, snorkel, etc. Been there, done that
with Cancun. We have looked at several options ranging from Aruba to Mexico
to Belize to Jamaica. Dont want to spend a fortune but would like to have a
good time. Would be flying out of Austin or San Antonio, looking to spend
$2K or so. | |

| | Guest | Grand Cayman We are planning on visiting Grand Cayman this Fall and am looking at condos
on the North end of 7-Mile Beach. We are looking at London House, Discovery
Point and Heritage Club
I am up to date on the general conditions on the island having been there
for a few days in June, but I did not get an opportunity to review the care
and conditions of the condos in question.
Has anyone been to any of these three resorts or know personally someone who
has. And if so could you advise the general condition of the resort you know
about. I am not so concerned about the hurricane damage because we know that
has been remedied at each, I am more interested in the general condition and
care of the resort and accommodations itself. My preference is Discovery
Point because we have stayed there before (1999), it has a beautiful beach
and it is the smallest of the 3 we have interest in.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi David,
I stayed at Discovery longer ago than you did, so I can't say at all
what it could be like now.
I can offer this, though: have you gone to the site TripAdvisor? You can
look up just about any destination and hotel there. The users write the
reviews, and there are forums for all the islands.
Hope that helps! Regards to the stingrays.

Thanks, I did go ahead and do that and the recent reviews seem stellar. I
also got a number for DPC and it turned out to be the office onsite and I
spoke with a very nice young ladu who told me which units had been recently
renovated, which were nicely furnished etc. between TripAdvisor and my
convresation with this young lady I have decided on and booked Discovery
Point Club for our Grand Cayman visit.
Thanks for your help.
Just for your own info.....all the units have been renovated since either
you or I were there and the pool/hottub area has been as well.

You're welcome and thank you for the information. It's so refreshing to
hear when things go well: that things have been renovated and are
getting stellar reviews.
Enjoy your trip!

| | Guest | Grand Cayman? Hi Kristina,
My family stayed at the Cayman Comfort Suites two years ago. We found this
very economical for a family of four as it is really expensive there. We
had a suite with two bedrooms and a fold out couch that my son slept on.
Also, there was a kitchette area, with a stove, microwave, dishwasher,
utensils, and fridge. We went to the grocery store, Kirk's, and bought
lunch and snacks items, so we had that for a meal. They have a great
continental breakfast bar every morning that is included in the room cost,
so we had that for breakfast, too. Our only real meal expense was dinner
and we went to the American chain restaurants as my wife has a weak stomach
and we had to watch what she eats.
As for diving, Don Foster's has a dive shop on grounds, so I made
arrangements for two dives that week there. Polly was the customer service
rep there and she took good care of me and the arrangement were all handled
very smoothly and professionally. As for the beach, they don't have their
own private beach, but there was a public beach right behind, so you walk
about 25 yards from the Cayman Comfort and there you are right on Seven Mile
Beach.
I very much enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning. The place was
quiet and clean. If it was just my wife and myself, we would have stayed a
more pricey motel, maybe next time. Also, I do want to dive Cayman Brac as
I have been reading that an artist is making a city of Atlantis.
Lastly, I have two dives from this year's vacation to Nassau on Google. Go
to video.google.com and search for Rock Wall Dive and also James Bond Nassau
to see the underwater videos.
Any other questions, let me know.

| | Guest | Grand Cayman? There were quite a few motels around that area. I can't think of any off
hand, though. As I recall, towards the north end of Seven Mile Beach, there
were American chain motels, so at least you get some idea what to expect.
Things are pretty quiet at night for family activities. We are not in to
going to bars, but there are lots of bars and clubs if you are into night
life. As it was very hot, my family got up early in the morning, explored
the island, swam all afternoon, and really kind of took it easy in the
evening.
Hope you have a great trip.
