Default Food, meal prices in the Caribbean

How much should I expect to pay for meals in the Caribbean.

I will be traveling to Barbados and Dominica. Many hotels offer meals
onsite, but they seem to be somewhat high. $10-25 per person per
meal.

I assuming one can get by on less that that. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Mav

10 to 25 is cheap compared to most islands. You can eat cheaper at
most street corners where the locals sell chicken "stuff" or goat
water.

Somebody once told me that Fish Head Stew is cheap and healthful.
I think they were pulling my leg!

Seriously, US$10-25 is not expensive. You might be able to pick
up items that require little preparation in local markets. (Bread,
chese, etc.) That could save on some meals.

We stayed at coconut-court in Barbados. A regular 3 star hotel. Brekfast
cost 26BDS = 13 USD a person. We think that was very expensive, and ate
brekfast in our room most days. A couple days also at some cafe in St.
Lawrence Gap, where we paid between 12 and 18 bds a person.
Lunch at the same hotel was acutally not that bad priced. And neither were
dinner. Not more expensive than to go out on any other restaurant of same
class.
If you stay at a 4 star, or 5 star hotel, you must pay a lot more than 10-25
us dollars for a meal.
