Default Chitzen Itza from PA

I'm going to be in the Mayan Riviera in a few weeks and specifically,
staying in Puerto Adventuras. Most of the things I liked to see (eg.
Tulum,Coz) are easily accessible and cheap via public transportation.
However, I would love to see Chitzen Itza. Any advice on the cheapest
and best way to get there from PA. I would prefer not to take the
"tour" offered by the hotel. Any advice on car rentals or another mode
of transportation.

Spent two weeks in Playa last month.
Rented a Jeep from Localiza auto rentals in Playa del Carmen.
3 day rental $140 US. No problems with jeep or credit card bill.
Remember it is quite a drive to Chitzen Itza, the toll road is faster.
Took the local way back, where you get to see alot more.
Lots of speed bumps through the small towns !
Prepare to leave early, and spend the entire day.
Tell us how is Puerto Adventuras upon return. Stayed at Oasis Puerto
Adventuras in 2001,
and found it very good for a 3-1/2" Star. I imagine the town & marina have
grown .

Will do. Looking forward to it. My mom and I are going together and
both of us are pretty adventurous, so renting a car really isn't
disconcerting for either of us. Anywhere else you visited and would
recommend? We both would eventually like to get our dive
certifications. I've been through the class once already but missed
out on my open dives due to my mom's cancer. We both enjoy snorkeling
though and would love a few great spots. I've heard tell that Xel-Ha
has some nice snorkeling, albeit, sometimes a bit murky. I would
really like to snorkel a Cenote. Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.

Regards,

Kelly

Good snorkeling at Yal-Ku, which is located near Akumal Beach. Ask a local,
as a nice park is down at the end past the touristy part.
Did a cave snorkeling trip at Hidden Worlds, which was quite a unique
experience.
Definately snorkel in the Cenotes, as the water is fresh & cool. Many around
to choose from.
Did not do Xel-Ha this trip, but it is a day well spent, although some
people say it is pricey. !
You are not a large family, if it is just you & your Mom, so it should be
reasonable.
Mayan ruins at Tulum are great too, if you like the historical, educating
sort of thing.
Enjoy the town of Playa del Carmen. Great people, food, nightlife, etc.....
Am jealous, as we enjoy this area of Mexico, and would love to be going
back.

Paul.

Thanks for all the great advice Paul. My mom has been to this area of
Mexico a few times. This is actually my first trip to Mexico. I work
in archaeology, so I'm looking forward to Tulum, Coba, and Chitzen
Itza. I'm also an avid ocean lover, so getting some snorkeling in will
be fun. Will be sure to post my trip report and let you know what I
thought.
